Mirza Adityaswara named Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia
He’s an “outsider” in Indonesia’s central bank.
His selection comes at a time when the central bank is grappling with worsening inflation and a sliding rupiah. Adityaswara, 48, was formerly chairman of the agency that guarantees bank deposits.
He headed capital markets and was the chief economist at PT Bank Mandiri, Indonesia’s largest lender by assets, before joining the deposit guarantee agency nearly three years ago. He previously was head of equity research at Credit Suisse Securities Indonesia.
Analysts believe bringing in people from outside the central bank will help strengthen Bank Indonesia’s board.
