Bangladesh govt signs e-tender deal with 5 banks

An agreement was signed between the government and five banks for introducing electronic bidding for public-works contract within the current month.

Central Procurement Unit made the agreement on Monday afternoon at the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Department at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.

The five banks are Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, UCB and the National Bank.
Participants have to have registration with a bank first to take part in the tendering process—as the current manual procedure of tender submission is believed bedeviled by tender hooliganism.

“After the registration, they will be provided a special password and more than one person will not be allowed to go to submit bid papers,” sources said.

Director-General Amullya Kumar Debnath of the Central Procurement Unit and Directors of the banks concerned were also present at the signing ceremony.
