Visa names new chairman and regional president for APAC

Visa Japan’s country head Stephen Karpin is the new regional president, whilst Chris Clark ascends as chairman.

Visa has appointed Chris Clark as chairman of its Asia Pacific arm, and Stephen Karpin as regional president, effective 1 April.

Clark served as the APAC regional president for 10 years. In his new role, he is expected to support regional and global initiatives, which include making strategic engagements with government and industry stakeholders and driving the card payments company’s market expansion strategy.

Clark will continue his role as a non-executive director of the Visa Europe Board, Visa said.

Karpin, meanwhile, will be responsible for the business operations of Visa. Since 2019, he has served as country manager for Japan, Visa’s largest market in APAC. 

Karpin joined Visa in 2014 as group country manager in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. In 2017, he was appointed as group country manager, regional Southeast Asia. 

Prior to joining Visa, Karpin worked senior roles at the Commonwealth Bank and Westpac in Australia and at Citibank in Australia, Singapore and Japan.
